You needed a clip. Not another half-hour of downloading, finding, and trimming. We built Cutra to get you back to the edit.
What is Cutra?
Cutra is a Mac desktop app for saving exact moments from YouTube as video or audio files, with an optional Chrome extension. Mark where a moment starts, mark where it ends, and send it to Cutra. The desktop app processes the clip locally and saves it on your computer.
You get the part you came for, ready to bring into your editor. You can select several moments while you watch and keep them in your own library.
Why we built it
You find the shot. It is exactly what your edit needs. Then you have to copy the link, download a long video, find that moment again, trim it, export it, and remember where you put the file.
Cutra handles the download and cut together. You choose the timestamps and get a file you can use in your edit.
From YouTube to your timeline
Paste a YouTube link directly into the Cutra desktop app, or use the optional extension while watching on YouTube. When you reach the part you want, mark the start. Mark the end, choose video or audio, and send the selection to the desktop app.
Cutra handles the clip on your Mac. Keep watching while it works, then open the finished file from your library and bring it into your editor. You can also paste a YouTube link directly into the desktop app.
You choose the moments. Cutra saves them as files.
Five reasons to keep a moment
B-roll for an edit. Save the exact shot that helps tell your story, without taking the whole source video into your project.
A starting point for a Short. Pull the strongest answer or highlight from a long video, then shape it in your editor.
Sound for a scene. Save an audio selection when you need atmosphere, a sound effect, or a spoken reference.
A library for the next project. Keep useful clips together on your Mac, ready to find and use even without an internet connection.
A reference worth studying. Save the hook, camera move, or transition itself. Replay the relevant moment instead of hunting through bookmarked videos.
Your clips stay on your Mac
Your clip library is local. Cutra processes and saves media on your computer, so your collection does not depend on a cloud library subscription.
Once a clip is saved, it is a file you can open, move, and use in your usual workflow. Cutra handles collecting; your editor remains the place where you create.
